Joseph Schooling of Singapore finished first in the men’s 100m Butterfly, setting an Olympic record. He also finished ahead of traditional big names Michael Phelps and Chad Le Clos, who both finished in second place.
This is especially special for Schooling, who looked upto Phelps while growing up.
This was Phelps first Olympic loss in the Butterfly event, in all his years of participation. Although disappointed to have lost, Phelps expressed his pride in Schooling, whom he has known for several years.
Being the last individual race for Michael, he added that he is now ready to retire.
