Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has just announced several key dates in the much anticipated new school calendar that the ministry is yet to release. After a consultative meeting with education stakeholders today, the CS confirmed that all schools will be reopened in January 4th 2021. Despite the rising cases of covid-19 in schools, CS Magoha looks determined to get students back in schools in less than two months time.
Form 1,2 & 3 students will kick-off their second term on 4th January and terminate on 19th March 2021 together with the form fours. The same will apply to Pre-primary 1&2; Grade 1,2 & 3; Class 5, & 7; and finally class 8 candidates. Grade 4 and the incoming form 1(class 8 graduates) will stay at home as other students complete their term 3.
The CS however failed to release the official calendar for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams. He only mentioned that non candidate students will proceed home for a 7-week period to allow for the administration, marking and grading of the examinations.
The CS downplayed the surge in covid-19 cases in schools and opted not to include it in his briefing. With the complete school calendar yet to be released and coronavirus ravaging through schools, the education sector is surely on a limbo.
