Mombasa-based team All Stars overcame defending champions Bayer Never Losen in a 3 2 win that saw them become champions of the just concluded 2016 Astroturf Football Challenge held at the Gems Cambridge International School,Nairobi.

Likewise,Minions from Nairobi won the girls’ Under-23 category after seeing through Gems Cambridge in a nervy 2 1 penalty shoot-out.

Both All Stars and Minion were rewarded with Kshs. 200,000 in cash prize to share.In addition,the players have a chance of being part of the Greensport Football Academy on full scholarship,courtesy of sports betting company mCHEZA.

Yesterday’s final was a culmination of 3 weekends of knockout action that had brought together more than 150 teams from Nairobi,Mombasa and Kisumu.

The aim of the tournament was to scout and recruit a team of 11 players from each gender to join the Westlands-based Greensport Academy.
