Fashion designer Arnold Wachira Muriithi was crowned the first winner of Equity Bank’s ‘Vijana na Equity‘ design competition. Arnie beat 40 other finalists to emerge the winner. With the win, he got himself financial management training by the Financial Knowledge for Africa (FiKA) offered by Equity Group Foundation, and 150,000 shillings. He also won himself an invitation by “In the Bag” to attend the 2015 Hub of Africa Fashion Week in Ethiopia, where his air ticket & accommodation will be paid for by Equity Bank. Arnold is no stranger to achievement either. He recently dressed Miss Earth Kenya, Lydiah Manani, during the Miss Earth Final, held May last year in Manila, Philippines. The Kenyan Miss Earth finalist was dressed in an enchanting black evening gown.
Arnold draws his inspirations from, “absurd and surreal art, architecture and nature” he quips on the Equity Bank ‘Vijana na Equity’ microsite. For the Miss Earth evening gown, he says, “I drew my inspiration from a paper sculpture by Richard Sweeney who has mastered the art of pleating and origami. The pleating is evident on the gown’s bodice with pleats in different directions.”
Congratulations Arnold, and we hope to see more inspirational designs from you!
