European football powerhouse Barcelona were last night condemned to a thorough beating by French champions Paris St. Germain. The match was played at PSG’s Parc des Princes, with the Catalans outdone in not just the scoreboard but also in the game.

Angel Di Maria scored a free kick in the 18th minute giving PSG the lead before Julian Draxler struck in five minutes to half-time. In the second half of the game, birthday boy Edinson Cavanni scored before his fellow birthday boy Di Maria capped the scoring.

““It’s impossible to have a better birthday and performance,” Di Maria said. The defeat leaves a mountain for Barcelona to climb, for them to go to the next stage in their bid to the UEFA Champions League glory.
