Every Kenyan knows Bazokizo right now. If you don’t know the dance, then you at least know the song (moment of silence for that, you’re great!). Bazokizo is a great song, plus a very original new dance style that is now ruling the streets. But one person stands out, and it’s not Collo. Neither is it the little boy who goes on a brife dance battle with Collo. It’s that guy with a white pair of shorts and pink (or which color is that?) T-shirt. The lad who sings the chorus. He steals the show completely.
Now, that is how stars are made. Nobody knew Bruz before the song happened. I would have called him a vixen, but a video vixen is a lady who makes appearance in a video and beautifies it. Like Vera Sidika did in ‘You Guy’ years back.
In Tanzania, being a video vixen is a well-paying job. Those guys have some renown video vixens, talk of Giggy Money, Amber Lulu, Tunda etc. The other day another video quuen emerged and guys can’t get enough of her. She’s called Nai. The lady who starred in Darassa’s Muziki. She has gone ahead to feature in some two more huge songs and already she has a management that if you want her in your video, you talk to the management first. You see how huge this thing is?
Back to our own Bruz Newton. This guy is a brand. His appearance in Bazokizo should be a stepping stone to some bigger things. He has made himself a brand, independent from Bazokizo song. He has featured in a couple of artistes’ videos, ‘I don’t care’ by Smart Djaba and the latest gospel hit in town, Kumbe Kumbe by Mr. Seed ft. Bahati.
I really hope he benefits from this, because fame doesn’t pay bills. I am looking forward to his song (if he does this soon, it will be better) and establish himself as an artiste.
