Joining campo is one of the most exciting times of our lives. We are finally figuring out who we are, and looking forward to a whole new world. If you got it wrong in high school, in the friend department that is, you have a second chance to make new friends and experience new people.
However, there are some ugly things that happen on campus that we need to watch out for. According to statistics about 20-25 percent of varsity women are sexually assaulted during their first year. One of the main reasons for this is naivety and lack of knowledge on some of the practices of campus students. For instance, if you are at a party, you may witness drug use, some of the things you never used to see at your former high school parties.
When you get to campo, it is paramount that you make friends that share the same values as you, and will look out for you. That way you always have a circle of support when it comes to dealing with varsity challenges.
As a fresher, please do not place yourself in any compromising situation, if you feel uncomfortable with anyone, leave their presence immediately. Rapists rely on the sad fact that you are new and will be afraid to report anything to the authorities, as you do not want to draw negative attention to yourself.
We are not saying it is your fault in case of any form of sexual assault, we are just telling you to be careful.
Bottom line, men should never rape, there is never and will never be an excuse for rape!
