A student from Changez (Lenana school) has succumbed to chicken pox. The student who was in form 3 passed away on Saturday after getting sick and being taken to the hospital.

Amos Mumo Mutie was only 18 years old and his condition had been stable up until the last minute. The student had been taken to the Kikuyu Mission Hospital for treatment.

The parents of the deceased say they are not impressed by how the school handled him and that they might decide to take up the matter to the police.

Students in the school had protested on Monday following the tragedy. Regional education coordinator John Olontua confirmed the deceased fell sick on Wednesday and was taken to the school clinic. He later developed complications on Saturday, prompting him to be rushed to the hospital.  Investigations into the incident are still ongoing and health officers are on the ground. Olontua added that students had been released on a mourning break and also to make sure the school was devoid of the disease since two others had also been sick but recovered.

This comes barely a few weeks ago after several students lost their lives in Moi Girls Secondary School Nairobi.

Our condolences go out to the family of Amos and we hope the parents and the school administration can resolve any dispute.
