There are times when the world comes to a stop. No, not in reality but the time just seems to slow down. Mostly those times are when two league kingpins come head to head in a highly-charged match. We dissect some of the big battles that went down this past weekend.
- The Manchester Derby
Like always the city of Manchester played host to another exciting derby. Being the 182nd meeting between the two, everyone was eager to know who would walk out with the bragging rights and the three points. A first-half wonder class by Antony Martial and a second-half strike by Scott McTominay allowed the Red Devils to emerge victorious. Earning a first league double over the Cityzens since the 2009-2010 season, the Devils painted the city red. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer became one of the only two managers to ever defeat Pep Guardiola 3 times in a single season.
- The Mashemeji Derby
It is the most-watched and most followed match in Kenya. With unending action and the perfect bragging rights. Gor Mahia, aka Sirkal or Green Army continued their domination in the 88th encounter of the derby. Completing a second double in the second successive season, Sirkal showed that their perennial rivals, AFC Leopards, were not up to their class. Even the presence of President Uhuru could not help Ingwe salvage the match as they lost 1-0.
- Derby d’Italia
The Old Lady Of Turin and the Nerazzurri went at it again. With Juventus in control of the Serie A, this match was more than just a fight for fame. Both teams haad a formidable team but the Ronaldo-led Juve managed to outwit their rivals. With 2 superb goals from Aaron Ramsey and Paulo Dybala, the guys in black and white managed to keep their grip on the title firm and walk away with the fame.
