The Ministry of Health has revealed that targeted testing has kicked off at Maranda High School after a student from the school tested positive for coronavirus. This comes just a week after two schools in the coast area were closed down due to positive cases being reported from the schools. Star of the Sea Secondary School recorded 4 cases while Tononoka High School recorded 11 cases. The principal of Tononoka High School has since succumbed to the virus just days ago.

In an interview with Radio Ramogi, Siaya County Director of Public Health, Kennedy Orwenjo, confirmed that one positive case was established in the school last weekend. He also added that they are currently contact tracing and testing the students who might have come into close contact with the student who tested positive. However, they wont be able to test all the form four students in the school since they currently lack the capacity to do so.

The targeted testing kicked off on Tuesday which only means that the officials are still waiting for the results of the samples taken and hence cant confirm if there are any other additional cases. The covid-19 positive student is currently in the isolation unit at the Bondo Sub County Hospital.
