The self-proclaimed equalizer of Kenyan music, EQ is out here to change the game entirely. His determination to see the culture grow and embrace originality spurs beyond the money, hype and fame that comes along with being a star. The young, energetic and vibrant rapper, signed under Mad Royal Entertainment first broke into the game with his single freaky which received massive appraisal from Kenyan music lovers. His statement was bold and on point, this was his time!
“EQ is very raw in his songs and seeks to establish a connection with his fans. That’s something that we really adore and love about him,” states the CEO of Mad Royal Entertainment. The record label boasts of being the future factory of talent and ‘mad’ African excellence. The label already has its claws set towards conquering the African entertainment scene with their continental grant that they won from the Tony Elomelu Foundation. With a clear vision and a crop of young and talented artistes, the label seems set to achieve unimaginable success in a game enjoyed by only a few established acts.
EQ traces his passion for music way back to his primary school days when he used to listen to a lot of pop music. An era when the eruption of pop music in the world was at its peak and the fusion of rap and RnB was picking up. His biggest inspiration came from Chris Brown, who enjoyed massive success within this period and influenced a lot of youth to fall in love with the genre. He ended up doing his first rhyme in class seven but wasn’t really sure about the path he would end up taking. However, come high school, he couldn’t hid any longer. His love and passion for music was beginning to exuberate itself in ways he couldn’t imagine. He therefore recorded four pop songs but didn’t officially release them to the public.
When he joined campus, he came to discover that he was way better in rap and ended up majoring his music on rap and a little bit of pop. That’s when he recorded a demo of ‘Niaje’ and sent it out to producers and managers that he knew. In the process, he ended up impressing the Mad Royal team who signed him immediately. From there on, his music has been able to reach more and more people, as he strives to change the game and do it his way. “Mi ndio equalizer!” Utters EQ.
The soft spoken rapper states that “my music is very unique. Its unlike what we have right now, my music is bars on top of bars, raw content! I don’t major my music on ad libs and stuff like that. I value the culture and the game, the only justice I can do to the game is give people raw and authentic content.” He concludes with letting us know that there is a lot of music still in store for his fans. He is currently working on a mixtape that he is due to release soon. All you can do is stay tuned and watch the ‘Equalizer’ revolution unfold before y’all!
