Fifa Awards 2018 left everyone amazed. The award was a basket full of surprises. Luka Modric, Croatia’s middle fielder was named the Best Fifa Footballer of the year. The Croatian has become the first player other than Lionel Messi and Ronaldo to win since Kaka in 2007.

Modric avoided mentioning whether he deserved it or not and just thanked his supporters. He however said that he wished that Messi and Ronaldo would have attended. Sergio Ramos congratulated Modric and said also hoped that Ronaldo and Messi was there.

The Fifa Best Award was decided by both the national team coaches and the captains select members of the media and online voting. Winning the Golden Ball at the world cup was deciding factor in claiming the award. Modric acknowledged both his club and national team achievement. Salah was awarded the Puskas award for his goal in the Merseyside derby.  He had a record breaking season with Liverpool. People however expected him to win the Best Player.
