Harzard’s 22nd minute penalty enabled the Blues to lift the FA Cup trophy for the 8th time as Mou’s  trophy thirsty side were left in deep disappointment. The Belgian international was excellent during the match and is the one who mostly posed a threat to United’s defence. Conte played Harzard beside Giroud who was mostly falling deep to cover up for Harzard as a CAM. This gave Harzard a lot of freedom to raom withinb the attacking area and even escape Herrera who is usually linked with tying down the Belgian.

Stones attack on Harzard that caused the penalty

The Blues haven’t been on form at the start of this season which really affected their Champions league qualification chances greatly. However despite finishing fourth in the premier league they now have a reason to laugh as they lifted the second most prestigious football award in England. United on the other side had most of the possession but failed to create any significant chances to break Chelsea’s deadlock. The two notable chances created by Mou’s side were that of Pogba which he headed wide and that of Rashford which was saved by Cortouis.

After struggling this season to compete with other world class teams in both the league and the champions league, it has become evident that Chelsea need to boost their squad. This was also echoed by Harzard after the match demanding that Chelsea make an improvement on the team during this summer transfer season if they are to keep the star who has been heavily linked to the Spaniard giant Real Madrid. Antonio Conte was also fast to criticize the club’s transfer policy that he claims barred him from making certain transfers last summer.
