Nigerian hit-maker Reekado Banks excited a lot of fans when he revealed that he will be coming to Kenya for a performance slated for 7th of November this year. The singer was meant to headline a concert called Naifest at Ngong’ Racecourse alongside acts like Tanasha Donna, Khaligraph Jones, ZZero Sufuri, Trio Mio and Otile Brown. Fans were thrilled to finally have the opportunity to enjoy a proper concert after a covid-19 disruption that shut down events for over 6 months. However, that was not the case.
The event turned out to be a huge mess that even saw the event headliner, Reekado Banks fail to perform. Reekado Banks failed to perform despite landing in the country a day prior to the event. He was even ushered in by controversial socialite, Shakilla. The hype that surrounded the concert eventually failed to live up to the expectations as fans were left dejected and disappointed. The star was a no show at Ngong Racecourse raising a lot of questions.
In a lame effort to try and clear her name, the event organizer, Bridget Achieng’ came out to defend herself claiming that the star did not perform due to the ongoing curfew that has been set by the government. The Nigerian singer however hit back by revealing that he wasn’t paid the full amount as agreed and that’s why he did not perform. Sources close to the organizers claim that the amount owed to Reekado was about Ksh.500,000.
The event was also characterized by a lot of insecurity as fans who attended the event raised complaints of mugging and violence. To make matters worse, one of the event attendees has been confirmed dead after a violent encounter at the concert. The matter is still under investigation.
Other artistes like Tanasha Donna also failed to perform at the event, cancelling at the last minute.
