Shazam, which is an online platform that allows users to search for songs, recently declared that the African masterpiece broke previous search records and becomes the most searched song globally on its platform.

Jerusalema, which was released in December 2019 has quickly grown to a must-play song around the world. Sang by Master KG and featuring Nomsebo, it has received over 124 million views on YouTube. This places it among the most viewed songs from the African continent and worldwide. #JerusalemaChallenge has gone viral during this COVID-19 period and provided immense entertainment. The challenge which incorporates different moves has trended on social media.

The song is sung in the Khelobedu language which is spoken by the Lobedu people in South Africa. It has been described as an “upbeat gospel-influenced house song.” The hype that it created prompted a remix that features Burna Boy and which was released on 19th June 2020. The song has topped the US Billboard charts, the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart.
