Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has suspended the matatu ban in the city’s central business district. This comes after a series of outcries by Nairobi residents on the long walking distances to various bus terminus.

The ban came as a means to ensure there was some de congestion and sanity back to the Nairobi CBD. The move did not go quite as planned as the city experienced heavy traffic snarl up at every entrance and exit. The main points affected were Ngara stage, Railways bus terminus and Muthurwa bus stage.

“I have noted with deep concern the plight of Nairobi residents as a result of the ban, and hereby announce that the full implementation of this directive has been suspended with immediate effect,” the governor stated.

The move comes in a bid to allow further consultations with all the affected parties to find a long lasting solution to the problem.
