Harambee Stars’ captain Victor Wanyama, who also plies his trade for EPL side Tottenham Hotspurs was named the league’s best African player for January. Wanyama, who joined the London-based side from Southampton has enjoyed a successful spell under coach Mauricio Pochettino. He featured in all the four games the club played last month and the club did not lose a single match.
Winning the award means a lot for the skipper, locally referred to as ‘The Lion Of Muthurwa’ as it puts him in a position to be a strong contender for the ‘African Player Of The Year’, if his sterling performance. He floored Ivory Coast’s and Manchester City’s yaya Toure, Nigeria and Chelsea’s Victor Moses as well as Senegal and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.
