The Kenya Union Of Post Primary Teachers,KUPPET,has issued the government with a 7-day ultimatum to have schools closed or else face a nationwide teachers’ strike.
The ultimatum issued on Thursday through the union’s deputy general Moses Nthurima comes in the wake of the rising arson attacks in secondary schools countrywide.
“We will ask our teachers to withdraw their labour from schools if the call for closure is not honoured.”
They also asked the govt. to release all teachers held in connection with the school fires.
“All the people arrested must be released unconditionally. Their incarceration is just a cover up by the government,” Nthurima said.
More than 115 schools have had their dormitories torched down in the last two months with the latest incident being witnessed at Garbatula high school in Isiolo county which was razed on Thursday.
