It’s now official, MCSK is no more. The former music copyright society which was mandated to collect royalties and distribute it among artistes failed to have it’s licence renewed by KECOBO. This was due to complaints from different stakeholders in the music industry that MCSK was actually stealing from the artistes.
Today KECOBO released a statement saying that it had reviewed two applications, National Music Copyright Society of Kenya (NAMCOS) and Music Publishers Association of Kenya Limited (MPAKE). The former failed to demonstrate it’s capacity to roll out collection if granted a licence.
