After almost 30 years, the 8-4-4 system has finally been scrapped.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) are set to come to an end following the unveiling of this new education system yesterday.

The system will aim to increase competence among students by providing them with continuous assessment tests and building up on their skills..

Students will take two years in early childhood education, three in lower primary, three in upper primary, three in lower secondary and three in senior secondary.

Education CS Fred Matiang’i who unveiled the system urged Kenyans to share their opinions on the system before it gets to a serious level.

Analysts however argue that it will be very expensive to implement since it will require the government to train teachers afresh and build more structures and institutions.

The proposed new education system will be refreshing and much more focused on learning rather than cramming for exams. It will also give students a chance to hone their individual talents and skills.

What are your opinions on the new proposed education system?
