As the government weighs its options on whether to fully reopen or close down schools due to the rising cases of covid-19, the effects of students’ continued stay at home are starting to manifest themselves even more. The village of Alara in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County woke up to a saddening news after a form three student committed suicide after his girlfriend ended their relationship.
Kelvin Omondi, an 18 year old student at Alara Mixed Secondary School, hang himself using a sisal rope on the evening of Wednesday this week according to Citizen TV. The incident came after he had a disagreement with his girlfriend over the phone and she decided to end the relationship. The girlfriend is also a form three student.

It is reported that the girl’s mother was against the relationship and had forced the girl to end the affair according to South West Kwawai Location Chief Grace Oguta. The Chief also added that the two had been in a relationship for a very long period of time dating back to their primary school days.
