In the recent past we have experienced serious feud from artistes who used to be comrades-in-arms. Close buddies who shared their innermost secrets, people who were inseparable. Trust me, music has had strong friends who eventually turn out to be the greatest enemies. Take a look.
- Kanye West and Jay Z.
Kanye West has been Jay Z’s buddie for a long time. These two have done so much in music that it’s difficult to mention one and not the other. Kanye has been involved in producing Beyonce’s songs and has worked with Jay Z in a number of songs. Lastly, they did ‘Watch the throne’ together. By the way, doesn’t it strike you that the two have celebrity wives, and each has a daughter?
Well, few days ago Kanye West was on his Saint Pablo tour and took to ranting about Jay Z and Beyonce. The two families have been rumored to be not getting along well lately especially since Kim’s kidnapping in Paris. Kanye has been in hospital and has never been paid a visit by Jay Z.
2. Nonini and JuaCali.
Calif records used to be run by these two honchos. Back then, they were the show-stoppers. You would see Juacali in Nonini’s videos and the latter would make appearances in Juacali’s videos. They even did Wee kamu remix together. Then Nonini decamped Calif records to Decimal working with Musyoka. The fanbase was divided with the fans taking sides on who was the king of Genge. They were enemies, nobody would tell why. Each person has successfully carved her niche and become a legend. It’s recently in Nonini’s birthday that the two linked up emotionally.
3. Diamond Platinumz and Ohmy Dimpoz.
We talked about the beef between these two lads a while back. If you are a bongo music fan, then you know how close these two were at first. They did some songs together, with Victoria Kimani and then Leka Dutigite featuring other Tanzanian artistes. Then somewhere someplace, something happened. The two were no longer walking together. Rumor made it to the public that they weren’t seeing eye to eye. Then Dimpoz used Wema Sepetu (Diamond’s ex-girlfriend) in his video. Recently the two traded insults in social media, Dimpoz accusing Diamond of soliciting for YouTube views, and the latter accused the former of hating on him for not having helped him rise.
4. DNA an Refigah.
When DNA took a very long sabbatical from music, he perched on Grandpa records on his comeback. He became the main man and on several occassions his bromance with Grandpa CEO Refigah was credited for his musical success. He became the second in command. Then one day, DNA announced that he was leaving grandpa. The two parties insisted that all was well and it was in good terms that they would no longer work together till recently. DNA has been embroiled in some exchange with Grandpa, saying that the label was very weak and he’d been the only creative force there. He singled out Visita and Dufla Diligon, dissing everybody else, “Manze grandpa mko chini”, he said. In response, Grandpa wrote on their official facebook page;
5. Kenrazy and Rapdamu.
You might not be aware, but after quitting Jomino records, Ghipuka general Kenrazy’s next stop was Pacho. Pacho was owned by Naiboi, back then called Rap Damu. Kenrazy’s music however took a downward spiral and he blamed this on Rap Damu who had lured him as an artiste but was using him to produce other artistes’ music. Razy decamped Pacho and went to grandpa, leaving Pacho to Timmy T-dat as the main artiste behind Rap Damu. Rap Damu has however refuted claims of there being any beef between the two.
6. Willy Paul and Bahati.
Well, and closing our six friends-to-foes list is this pair that is the most talked about in Kenya. These two lads are super-talented. When Bahati won his first groove award, he kept it at Willy Paul’s house. He slept in Willy’s house and the two were inseparable. Then they planned to do a song, they did part of it and it never saw the light of the day. Currently the two don’t see eye to eye.
