It looks like Nairobi Senator Mike ‘Sonko’ is an avid sports fan. Or a very tactful politician. The flashy senator graced the Metropolitan Division Finals this afternoon for the prize giving ceremony. And prizes he gave…
Right after the action-packed BBall final, in which Uppah defended the Metropolitan Division championship by beating perennial rivals Laiser Hill Academy 62-53, the Senator made a dramatic entrance, escorted by the NSSSA (Nairobi Secondary Schools Sports Association) chairman Mr. Peter Orero.
During the prize giving ceremony, Sonko congratulated the winning teams from all the 4 Counties in the Metropolitan Division. The Metropolitan Division consists of teams from Nairobi, Makueni, Kajiado and Machakos Counties. He then challenged the teams from Nairobi to bring him the respective national titles.
The controversial Senator proceeded to promise all the winning teams two sets of uniforms and balls for their respective sports disciplines. When prodded whether the uniforms will be ‘Sonko’ branded, he declined to say insisting that Nairobi needs to shine during the national ball games, which will be held in Nakuru next month. It is also important to note that the Nairobi Senator also provided free ambulances throughout the duration of the Metropolitan Division finals, courtesy of the Sonko Rescue Team.
Looks like Sonko has set out to win the hearts of young Nairobi voters, even before they are old enough to vote. And from the superstar reception Sonko received from the young athletes, it looks like the Senator could easily become Nairobi’s next governor.
