Arguably the best Kenyan rapper at the moment, Khaligraph Jones made history after being nominated for the Best International Flow award at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards. He was the only Kenyan to make the list of nominees let alone the only East African artist to receive such a recognition this year. He was nominated alongside UK’s Stormzy and Ms Banks, South Africa’s Nasty C, France’s Kaaris and Meryl and Brazil’s Djonga.
The OG lost the award to United Kingdom’s Stormzy in a hotly contested category at yester-night’s awards ceremony. Even though the winners are decided by a panel appointed by the BET Awards committee, Kenyans would have loved the contest to be open for fans to vote and decide who the winner is. Nonetheless, Khaligraph still remains one of the biggest and most talented acts from the region and getting such an international recognition is a good foundation for him to aim at winning the awards in the years to come.
Khaligraph also showed a lot of respect to Stormzy last night for bagging the award through an Instagram post where he congratulated the UK rapper.
