Kenya’s very own Wangechi is among the selected African acts to record a mash up with award winning songwriter, dancer, singer and producer Neyo. Other African acts invited to Coke Studio for subsequent mash ups are Bongo RnB star Ali Kiba, Nigerian BET award winner Ice Prince ,Ddo Bling from Mozambique and Uganda’s fast rising singer Maurice Kirya.
The Coke Studio mash up basically involves a producer selecting one song each from the acts, that’s Neyo and the 2nd artist, then blends them together and finally creates a third song. This is a great opportunity for the selected acts to record music with an artist of international status like Neyo. During the press briefing, Neyo expressed his happiness with the welcome he has been accorded by Kenyans and he is impressed by the acts he’s going to work with. He promised to follow their music career after he leaves Nairobi.
It will be interesting to see how he would sync with the different kind of music that the 5 African artists on this project do.Neyo is a celebrated worldwide act with platinum selling albums and has hits like So sick,Mad,Miss Independent ,She knows among many others. He has also written hits for Rihana ,Jeniffer Hudson,Beyonce,Marques Houston and Mario among many others. Coke Studio season 3 promises to be the best yet as they seek to reintroduce the mash up concept aimed at bridging gaps in music in terms of genres and distance.
Kenya’s in particular we’ll be keeping a close eye at the 21 year old fast rising femcee Wangechi who has recently gotten back to the music scene after a very unfortunate accident. Wangechi is better known for her feature in Ligii Soo remix by Rabbit but has solo singles like I am 1994 and Do For Love. She has worked with artists like Karun, Fena and HHP and was previously featured on CNN Inside Africa.
