Are you a hip hop fan? Then you’ve heard of the newly famous Rae Sremmurd, pronounced as “Ray-Shirmmer”. At first I actually thought that it was a solo act, later on I discovered that it is a duo. The team is made up of two brothers; Swae Lee, 19 and Slim Jimmy, 20.
The two brothers were born in California, moved to Tupelo where they were raised in a crime ridden and notorious hood. Their parents split leaving the two to hustle for shelter in abandoned homes. Slim said, “When we were growing up, it was just about perseverance.”
The movement started as a trio called ‘Dem Outta State Boyz’ where they used to throw parties and shows and uploading their hits on social media sites such as You Tube in bid of looking for recognition. The two were natural performers from elementary school. The ambitious brothers trained themselves how to record, make beats and DJ.
Their buzz extended when they featured in ‘Wild Out Wednesdays’ during BET’s Music Video Countdown on 106 & Park. This got them recognized by P-Nasty, a producer signed by Mike Will Made It. He introduced them to Multiplatinum producers who were amazed by their energy and quality music. From there, their career began at EarDrummer Entertainment Production.
Today these two are best known for their Mainstream recognition with the songs ‘No Type’ and ‘No Flex Zone’ contrary to the first song they did ‘I Dip’ which did not get recognized. The duo has thrived and has even done a single featuring Nicki Minaj and Young Thug, ‘Throw Some Mo’, whose video is yet to be released. Check out their fresh website @ www.raesremmurd.com . They have their brand ‘Sremm Life’ with which they have designed their own hoodies.
Finally onto some juicy gossip on the boys; Slim admitted on The Rickey Smiley Morning show that Dej Loaf is his celebrity crush while Swae was arrested on October 6th last year on Miami Beach and was charged for knowingly driving with a suspended license. He was however bailed at a cost of $1000.
Watch out for these two because they are about to go H.A.M with their tours. I’d not be surprised to hear yet another hit song soon. Continue keeping it real and ill!
