Its been three good years of no Wizkid project at all! Just imagine that, three years! Yes, we’ve enjoyed the singles and features in between but it has been long since we were able to listen to a full project from the Starboy himself. Wizkid finally decided to drop the long awaited album, “Made in Lagos” after postponding the original release date that was slated for 15th October in honor of the #EndSARS protests that were at the peak at that time. However, i have to admit that it was worth the wait!
Made in Lagos sees Wizkid bring it back home with sounds that are more consistent with the traditional African Afrobeats. Its a more “This is Africa”, “This is Us” album compared to Sounds From The Other Side album where he showcased his potential to dominate the global music scene with varying genres and sounds. It’s a more comfortable album for the Afrobeats king and a huge comeback into the international scene after spending alot of time from the studio in the past three years.
The well crafted album also saw some prominent features hop into the afro-beats party. The most amazing thing about the features is that Wizkid doesn’t allow the more dominant features like Skepta and Darmian Marley to swallow him in the tracks but rather asserts himself as the owner of the tracks. Bringing on board other top artistes like Burna Boy, H.E.R., Ella Mai and Terri also made this album a pure gem.
All in all, the 14 track album has seen Wizkid clearly send out a message to the global music scene that “This is where Afrobeats came from and this is where it’s going next!”
